FIA Stalls on China

No final decision has been made by the FIA on the proposal to reinstate China as a qualifying round of the World Rally Championship.

The proposed 14 round calendar for 2016 issued by the World Motor Sport Council includes China together with all the current 13 rounds, but China has a proviso concerning the fulfilment of recommendations following inspection of a national championship round held in August at Huairou, close to Beijing. This was observed as a Candidate event with the WRC in mind.

This event was not run to WRC requirements so far as required international experience of officials, dual language, security issues in general were concerned, and it is not widely known that the inspected event was an asphalt and concrete rally, not a gravel rally, and consisted on stages which were doubled up, running in both directions.

No date has been given by the FIA as to when a final decision regarding inclusion of China in 2016 will be made, or when the dates for the other 13 events will be announced.
