Sumiyama leads after Day 1 of Thailand Rally

Yuya Sumiyama leads APRC Thailand Rally with Sanjay Takale in second after 5 stages.

The APRC event lost Suzuki driver Chaiyan Longton on Stage 1 and Cusco’s Shuhei Muta on the 2nd stage, both with engine failure.

Stage 2 was nearly end of the event for Mike Young too, when a rock jammed in the rear wheel and brake caliper. Young managed to drag his Toyota Vitz to the finish, where he and co-driver Malcolm Read did roadside repairs and continued on to finish 3rd of the APRC competitors.

Tomohide Hasegawa had a good run in the morning but lost time in the afternoon with fuel pump problems, while Dinesh Dereragoda had no brakes for the first loop and severe handling problem in the second, but still made the finsih of day 1.

Tomorrow are 100 kilometres of competition near the Sara Farms Rally HQ.
