Jussi hangs on to lead in Finnish Series

MRF team driver Jussi Valimaki is racking up the frequent flyer points, making a 28 hour trip from the seventh round of the Finnish rally championship last weekend to Indonesia for this weekends APRC Rally of Indonesia.

But he’ll be hoping for a better result in Indonesia. Going into the SM Uusikaupunki rally with a 10 point lead in the Group A category, after missing the last round due to Rally Malaysia, Jussi was hoping to increase his lead.

However, he wasn’t able to keep pace with his championship rival Jarmo Mikkonen and his Peugeot 206 WRC. Driving to secure 3rd-place points, brake problems during the final three stages sawJussi lose another two positions, completing the event in 5th.

That result means Jussi continues to lead Group A, but now by a single point only.

Jussi and co-driver Jarkko Kalliolepo arrived in Makassar on Monday, Rally Indonesia one of the events he won on the way to his 2005 APRC championship title. For more information, photos and in-car video, have a look at Jussi’s web site.
