Malaysian Teams join APRC

Entries and interest in the 2011 Asia Pacific Rally Championship continues to grow as the close-off date for FIA registered entries (March 11th) approaches.

With Proton, MRF and Cusco teams having confirmed their entries two Malaysian teams have recently announced their plans, including a fleet of cars for the MRU team owned by Mohammed Rafiq.

At Malaysian rally the team will run an ex-Cusco Subaru for New Zealander Brian Green and a new shaped Subaru supplied by Arai Motorsport for Japanese driver Itano. We do hear a rumor that young Australian Nathan Quinn will drive one of MRU’s other Subaru, but that is not confirmed as yet.

MRU Team owner Rafiq will enter the APRC’s Asia Cup, entering Malaysia, Japan and China. The team is building Proton Satria Junior cars, but at the time of writing there were no confirmed entries for these.

Gunaseelan Rajoo is a former Malaysian Rally Champion and runs the GSR Rally team (www.gsr.com.my). Guna and co-driver Jagdev Singh will enter the APRC in 2011 in a Suzuki Swift aiming to win the 2-litre cup category. The GSR team is going to be very busy this year, running Karamjit Singh, Katsu Taguchi and Cody Crocker in the Malaysian Rally Championship.

Other entries in Malaysia include Tomohide Hasegawa competing in the Asia Cup.

A container is on its way from China with three cars for Malaysia and the APRC, but as yet there are no drivers registered or details on this team.
