Three New Caledonia Drivers for Pacific Cup

Three New Caledonian drivers have registered for the 2008 Pacific Cup and will compete in Rally of New Caledonia, Canberra and Whangarei.

Jean-Louis Leyraud driving a Subaru supported by Possum Bourne Motorsport, will lead ‘Team New Caledonia’ . Leyraud has the most experience of the team, having competed many times in New Zealand and twice in Canberra – and the whole APRC in 2002. Leyraud’s best chance of victory will of course be his home event on very tricky roads that the locals compete on regularly and where memory is far better than pace notes.

Of course both his team-mates will be pushing for top positions and they include Patrick Yania who drove a Mitsubishi to third overall in last year’s event. A former New Caledonian rally champion Yania also drove in New Zealand, although he struggled will his pace notes and the fast kiwi roads.

Patrick Christian also competing with Team Caledonia in a Mitsubishi crashed out of his home event last year and didn’t last long in New Zealand either, but has alot of experience on both events and should be a major force if everything comes together for him.
