APRC Wildcard Matt Jansen brought his MITECH WELDERS Subaru home in a career-best third place in the latest round of the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship [APRC] – the International Rally of Whangarei – last weekend, July 15-17.
Having been nominated by MotorSport New Zealand to be one of their four Wildcard entries in this APRC round, 23 year old Jansen, and Co-driver Jason Farmer from Huntly, made the most of the opportunity and put in a very consistent performance in extremely difficult driving conditions. This nomination was more than fully justified as they finished the best of the Wildcards for the 16 stage event that covered over 300 kilometres of high speed special stages. The Pmtmotorsport Team have endured a troubled season so far this year, but this top result has really turned things around.
“It’s been great to finally be able to match the pace of several of our [local] rivals and our event-long battle with [fellow APRC Wildcard] Ben Jagger was a real highlight.” “The benefits of Jason being fresh out of the MotorSport New Zealand Elite Motorsport Academy in Dunedin certainly paid off as well, as we have both now been there, and we commented several times during the weekend how much of that experience and new-found knowledge we were able to put to good use.”
